Ohio Chautauqua returns to Warren June 25 to 29

When Ohio Chautauqua returns to Warren from June 25 to 29, the free, five-day community event will combine living history performances, music, education and audience participation.

Daytime activities feature 2 p.m. adult programs and 11 a.m. hands-on workshops for youths hosted by local community organizations. Each evening, community members will gather at 6:30 p.m. as live music fills the air. Then, at 7:30 p.m., a performer will appear on stage, bringing a historic figure to life through personal stories and historic detail. The event is sponsored by the Ohio Arts Council.

The live music and historic performances will take place under the Chautauqua tent at Kinsman House, 303 Mahoning Ave N.W. They are as follows:

June 25: Music by Bill Lewis and historical performance by Susan Marie Frontczak as Erma Bombeck.

June 26: Music by Karen Lynne Barker and historical performance by James Armstead as Benjamin O. Davis Jr.

June 27: Music by Hal Walker and historical performance by Karen Vuranch as Julia Child.

June 28: Music by Jazz Trio with Arielle Green and historical performance by Fred Blanco as Cesar Chavez

June 29: Music by Denise Starr and historical performance by Jeremy Meier as Robert F. Kennedy.

The 2 p.m. programs for adults include engaging in conversations about issues at scholar-led programs. These programs, which will be at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave., are as follows:

June 25: America emerges as a world power 1940-1970 with James Armstead (Benjamin O. Davis Jr.)

June 26: Zoot suit riots with Fred Blanco (Cesar Chavez).

June 27: Erma Bombeck – Feminist? with Susan Marie Frontczak (Erma Bombeck.)

June 28: Ruthless showdown: Kennedy v. Hoffa with Jeremy Meier (Robert F. Kennedy).

June 29: Food fads in America: From feasting and fasting, Frozen to Fabulous with Karen Vuranch (Julia Child).

11 a.m. daytime programs for youths will take place at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave, They are as follows:

June 25: Stories of food and fun with Karen Vuranch (Julia Child), age 8 and up.

June 27: To make gentle the life of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy with Jeremy Meier (Robert F. Kennedy), age 10 and up.

June 28: Fundamentals of flight with James Armstead (Benjamin O. Davis Jr.), age 10 and up.
