Mill Creek hosts Drive Chip & Putt
BOARDMAN
Several golfers won their age divisions in the Drive Chip & Putt competition Saturday at Mill Creek Golf Course.
The event is sponsored by the USGA, The Masters and the PGA, and was conducted by the Northern Ohio PGA.

YSU women’s hoops, men’s golf honored

The Youngstown State men’s golf and women’s basketball teams have earned the Horizon League Raise Your Sights award for the 2018-19 academic year, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
The Raise Your Sights awards are given annually to the best sport teams academically based on combined grade point average from the academic year. The award recognizes the top academic male and female team from each Horizon League institution. YSU’s men’s golf team owns a 3.52 GPA, and the women’s basketball had a 3.75.
The men’s golf team has received the Raise Your Sights award for the fourth straight year and for the eighth time overall. The women’s basketball team has claimed the award for the second straight season.
Bickerstaff Cup begins at Sharon Speedway
HARTFORD
Saturday’s Menards “Super Series” event at Sharon Speedway will feature the first of four “Bickerstaff Cup” Series races for the Outlaw (E) Mods.
In addition, the non-wing RUSH Sprint Cars, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars and the HTMA/Precise Racing Products RUSH Sportsman Modifieds will be on the card.
Race time is 7 p.m.
Pits are open throughout the afternoon with pit passes going on sale at 4 p.m., while the main grandstands open at 5. Drivers meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road.

NCAA rules panel moves 3-point line
INDIANAPOLIS
The 3-point line is moving back in college basketball.
The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel announced Wednesday that the arc will be moved to 22 feet, 13/4 inches for the 2019-20 season, matching the international distance.
The change will not go into effect in Division II and III until 2020-21 due to the potential financial impact on schools.
The 3-point line was last moved in 2008-09, extending a foot to 20 feet, 9 inches.
WVU safety Pitts enters transfer portal
MORGANTOWN, W.Va.
West Virginia football spokesman Mike Montoro confirmed Wednesday that safety Derrek Pitts has joined fellow safety Kenny Robinson in putting put his name into the NCAA’s transfer database.
Pitts started two games last season and finished with 27 tackles, an interception and four pass breakups.
The departures would leave the Mountaineers thin at safety under Neal Brown and defensive coordinator Vic Koenning. The unit also lost four-year starter Dravon Askew-Henry.
