Marlins 8, Brewers 3

MILWAUKEE

Brian Anderson hit his first career grand slam and the Miami Marlins spoiled Jimmy Nelson’s return to the major leagues, beating the Milwaukee Brewers. Starlin Castro and Bryan Holaday each drove in two runs for the surging Marlins. Sandy Alcantara (3-5) pitched seven crisp innings in the win. Nelson, who turned 30 on Wednesday, injured his pitching shoulder diving back to first after rounding the base on a single. Orlando Arcia had a run-scoring double in the second and Yasmani Grandal connected for a two-run homer in the ninth for Milwaukee.

Cubs, 9, Rockies 8

CHICAGO

David Bote drove in a career-high seven runs to lead the Chicago Cubs to a win over the Colorado Rockies. Bote had four hits, including a three-run homer and bases-clearing double. David Dahl had three RBIs and three hits, including a triple and double. Brandon Kintzler (2-0) got the final two outs of the sixth for the win. German Marquez (6-3) yielded eight runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Diamondbacks 3, Dodgers 2, 11 innings

PHOENIX

Jarrod Dyson hit a tying double in the eighth inning, David Peralta had a winning single in the 11th, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers. Eduardo Escobar tripled off Scott Alexander (3-2) leading off the 11th, Ketel Marte was intentionally walked, and Peralta lined his first pitch to right. Zack Godley (2-4) pitched a perfect 11th for Arizona.

Phillies 7, Padres 5

SAN DIEGO

Adam Haseley drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning with his first big league hit, and the Philadelphia Phillies rallied from a three-run deficit to beat the San Diego Padres. Craig Stammen (4-2) walked Scott Kingery with two outs in the eighth to set up Haseley. Juan Nicasio (1-2) retired Wil Myers on a comebacker that ended the seventh. Neris got five outs for his 12th save in 14 chances.

Mets 7, Giants 0

NEW YORK

Jason Vargas pitched his first shutout in two years, Amed Rosario hit a three-run homer and the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants. Michael Conforto and Adeiny Hechavarria each had a solo homer for the Mets. Vargas (2-3) struck out a season-best eight, allowed five hits and a walk. Tyler Beede (0-2) allowed six runs (five earned) in five innings for the Giants.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Rays 4, Tigers 0

DETROIT

Charlie Morton allowed five hits in seven innings, extending his unbeaten streak to 20 starts and leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a win over the Detroit Tigers. Morton (7-0) struck out eight with no walks. Spencer Turnbull (3-5) allowed three runs in five innings. Avisail Garcia hit an RBI double, and Ji-Man Choi followed with a run-scoring single in the fifth. Detroit’s JaCoby Jones singled in the third to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

Blue Jays 11, Yankees 7

TORONTO

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a go-ahead, three-run homer off Zack Britton in a five-run eighth inning, Randal Grichuk had a pair of homers and the Toronto Blue Jays rallied to beat the Yankees. Brandon Drury and Grichuk combined for back-to-back homers against Luis Cessa in the eighth. Sam Gaviglio (4-1) pitched two hitless innings. DJ LeMahieu hit a three-run homer and had four RBIs, and Gary Sanchez had a solo drive for New York.

Red Sox 8, Royals 0

KANSAS CITY, MO.

Chris Sale tossed a three-hitter for his third career shutout, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Rafael Devers drove in three runs apiece, and the Boston Red Sox trounced the woeful Kansas City Royals. Sale (2-7) finished with 12 strikeouts and no walks. Jakob Junis (4-6) allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five.

INTERLEAGUE

Nationals 6, White Sox 4

WASHINGTON

Trea Turner homered off Alex Colome in the ninth inning, and the Washington Nationals beat the Chicago White Sox to extend a winning streak to four for the first time since early September. Jose Abreu hit his 16th homer, Wander Suero relieved and Welington Castillo homered on his first pitch. Sean Doolittle (4-1) pitched out of one-out trouble in the ninth.
