Donut DAZE features festival and bicycle tour

NEW WILMINGTON, PA.

Donut DAZE will take place next weekend, with the Donut Crawl and Festival from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, and the Tour de Donut bicycle tour – a bike tour with periodic stops for an optional doughnut eating challenge – on Saturday.

New this year is Donut Ninja, a challenge developed by the local Dunkin’ Donuts that includes several obstacles. The fastest ninja wins one dozen doughnuts a month for a year from Dunkin’ Donuts. Pre-registration is mandatory to compete. Go to ticketsource.us.

Children’s activities include decorate your own doughnut with OH Donut Co, and Art + Education at the Hoyt will offer a Make It and Take It craft. There will also be a Chalk the Walk competition, with four categories by age group.

Food options will include Pizza Joe’s pizza doughnut, Dutch Isle pulled pork doughnut sandwich, and the over 21 crowd can stop in to the Fractured Grape for a drunken doughnut.

Doughnut crawl levels include: Coma ($35) for all 15 doughnut vendors: The Crawl ($25) for 10 doughnut vendors; and the Creep ($15) is five doughnut vendors. All three levels include a mug and the choice to fill it once with milk, coffee or Italian Cherry Soda.

For festivalgoers wanting just a doughnut or two, singles will be available from a selection of the 15, but they’ll be spread along the doughnut crawl. Tickets can be purchased at livenewwilmington.com.

Registration for Saturday’s Tour de Donut will be Westminster College Field House beginning at 8 a.m. This is also where riders will begin on one of three possible routes through the countryside.
