How Valley athletes fared on Day 2 in Columbus
DIVISION I
AUSTINTOWN FITCH — Madison Skelly tied with Brunswick’s Angelina Lotarski for eighth place in the pole vault when both jumpers topped out at 11 feet, 6 inches. Deondre McKeever failed to make the finals in the high jump.
BOARDMAN — Micah Beckwith took eighth place in both the seated 100 (21.28 seconds) and the seated 400 (1:15.16). He was 3.03 seconds short of the podium of the seated 800. David Merdich did not make the finals in the shot put.
CANFIELD — Giovanni Copploe made the podium in the 3200, taking seventh place with a time of 9:23.62. Cody Piver finished 15th the seated 100.
HOWLAND — Vincent Mauri won the 3200 in dominating fashion with a time of 9:07.47, which was seven seconds faster than the nearest runner. Madison Sisler did not make the finals in the high jump.
NILES — Chante Clinkscale placed eighth in the 100, running a time of 12.52.
WARREN HARDING — JeSean Sledge had a sixth-place finish in the 300 hurdles with a time of 38.63.
DIVISION II
BEAVER LOCAL — James Monte took sixth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.01.
EAST — Giovanni Washington was 0.13 seconds away from first place in the 100, finishing second behind Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy’s Tre Tucker. Kyndia Matlock recorded a second-place finish in the 100 (12.20) and a fourth-place finish in the 200 (25.07). The 4x100 relay of Tobias Hayes, Latwon Jordan, Isaih Lewis and Washington took third place with a time of 1:29.39. Hayes finished the 200 in seventh place with a time of 22.62.
EAST LIVERPOOL — Cameron Beverley did not make the finals in the high jump.
GIRARD — Nick Malito got eighth in the 100 with a time of 11.28. Jalaya Brown and Daryl Smith did not advance to the finals of the long jump and discus, respectively.
HUBBARD — Seth Jones did not make the finals in the discus.
LAKEVIEW — Ashley Bowker took fifth place in the 110 hurdles (15.26) and seventh in the 300 hurdles (44.61). Liam Boivin took fourth place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.70. Dobler was 18th in the 1600.
POLAND — The girls 4x400 relay of Nina Centofanti, Jackie Grisdale, Mia Musolino and Chloe Kosco made the podium in sixth place with a time of 4:02.24. The 4x200 relay (Gabby Romano, Ava Izenour, Musolino, Kosco) took eighth place due to the disqualification of Streetsboro's relay. Kosco placed eighth in the long jump.
SALEM — Hunter Christopher earned the bronze medal in the 3200 with a time of 9:29.58. Carly Hall took fifth place in the 1600 with a time of 5:04.22. Haley Rozeski was ninth in the 800 and discus thrower Cooper Stockman failed to make the finals.
STRUTHERS — Aiden Hall placed fourth in the 400 running a time of 48.91. It was exactly one second behind winner Matt McBride of Conneaut.
WEST BRANCH — Jeff Joseph was 13th in the 3200. Brandon Zuchowski did not make the finals of the high jump.
DIVISION III
BADGER — Miranda Stanhope got the bronze in the 1600 (5:03.84) and fifth in the 3200 (11:30.02). Brandon Greathouse place sixth in the 110 hurdles (15.72) and teamed up with Jimmy Plunkett, Tanner Houser and Scotlund Shaffer in the 4x400 relay to reach seventh place with a time of 3:27.43. Lincoln Hopkins was 10th in the 3200.
CRESTVIEW (BOYS) — Crestview finished as the team runner up in Division with 36 points. East Canton had the most points with 42. Brandon Yanssens, Ethan Powell, Jayce Meredith and Dylan Huff took first place in both the 4x200 and 4x100 relays. The Rebels’ time in the 4x200 — 1:27.71 — is a new meet record. Huff also finished the 200 in third place with a time of 22.44. The Rebels won three titles in the tournament after Dominic Perry won the shot put on Friday.
LABRAE — Dynesty Ervin was the state runner up in the 200 (25.59) and was third in the 100 (12.52). In both races, she was less than half a second away from first place.
LIBERTY — The 4x100 relay of Braylen Stredrick, Migel Burgess, Justin Cizmar, and Zion Matlock took seventh place running a time of 43.79.
LORDSTOWN — Jermaine Jones finished the 400 in eighth place with a time of 49.71.
MCDONALD — Anna Guerra was the runner up in the 3200 with a time of 10:57.44. She was roughly five-and-a-half seconds behind winner Addie Engel of Springfield Catholic Central. Brody Rupe placed fourth in the 1600 with a time of 4:24.65. Bella Wolford took fifth place in the 800, running a 2:16.19. The 4x400 relay of Jessica Stamp, Wolford, Sela Jones and Brooke Lewis was fourth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:02.05.
MINERAL RIDGE — Danielle Aulet was 13th in the 800.
SPRINGFIELD — Garrett Walker won the gold in the 400 with a time of 49.25 and also took fourth place in the 100 (11.27). He anchored the state runner up 4x200 relay team with Dante Argio, Austin Tindell and Zach Ebert.
UNITED — Jaret Hahn took fourth place in the 110 hurdles running a time of 15.39. Hannah Minor was 11th place in the 800.
WELLSVILLE — Justin Wright claimed his second state title of the tournament, winning the 100 with a time of 10.69. He previously won the long jump on Friday. Wright finished the 200 (21.65) in second place, losing to Kalida’s Josh Veroff, who broke the state record for the event with a time of 21.39. The previous record belonged to former Youngstown State football player Denver Williams.
VALLEY CHRISTIAN — Brandon Paige placed eighth in the 100 with a time of 11.44. He missed seventh place by four hundredths of a second. The boys 4x100 relay of Lohron Brown, Damon Christian, Tyrone Lindsey and Paige took fourth place with a time of 43.70.
