Middle school students participate in contest

West Branch Middle School Band and Vocal Music program, seventh- and eighth-grade students, recently participated in the Ohio Music Education Association’s Solo and Ensemble Contest that took place at Struthers High School. The students performed in 16 events and received 11 superior and five excellent ratings.

All of the instrumental ensembles were awarded a superior along with seventh- and eighth-grade clarinet trios, eighth-grade flute solo, eighth-grade saxophone trio and the woodwind quintet. The top band soloists were Croesus Fu on flute; Grace Vence and Ally Zion on clarinet; Abbi Taylor on alto saxophone; and Kale Davis and Hayden Detwiler on trumpet. Receiving excellent, band soloists, were Ally Hartzell on flute; Ella Scofinsky on oboe; Ally Zion on bassoon; Lakira Beeson on alto saxophone; and Emma Kosenski on French horn.

The superior ranking vocal soloists were Brooklyn Horner, Haley Close, Ella Scofinsky and Croesus Fu. Excellent ratings were awarded to Madison Wike, Lauren Lee, Autumn Johnston, Elyse Schmitt, Andrea Janosik, Charity Rastetter, Ally Zion, and the WBMS eighth-grade girls vocal ensemble.
