Helping Hands Closet at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, has new and gently used clothes for the entire family.
June specials include buy one, get one free jeans, slacks, shorts, tops or shirts. There is a large infant through teens department. Store hours are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday.
Historical society to host day camp
YOUNGSTOWN
The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host its 2019 Summer Day Camp from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 24 through 28 at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St. Participants will learn about the history of radio and television, broadcasting both on a large scale and locally. Students will tour local stations and studios, learn from local media personalities and experts, work with the Business and Media Archives, and create their own news broadcast about a local history topic.
Registration is $75 for MVHS members and $100 for nonmembers, age 12 to 15 preferred. Early drop off and late pickup are available. Space is limited, register early. For information, call the society at 330-743-2589 or visit www.mahoninghistory.org.
Simply Slavic seeks scholarship applicants
YOUNGSTOWN
The Simply Slavic committee is seeking applicants, who attend Youngstown State University for its academic scholarship. YSU students who have completed their freshman year and are currently enrolled at YSU at the undergraduate or graduate level are encouraged to apply for the $500 scholarship.
All applicants will be required to submit a 500-word essay on how Slavic culture has influenced their lives. Funds can be used for tuition as well as applied to study-abroad programs. A panel made up of members of the Simply Slavic organizing committee will select the winners.
The deadline for scholarship applicants is June 22. The winners will be announced at the organizational committee’s volunteer appreciation dinner in August.

Drive for the Disabled

Golden String will host the 16th annual Drive For The Disabled at 9 a.m. Friday at Knoll Run Golf Course, 1421 Struthers-Coitsville Road. Donations are requested for basket auction items, sign sponsors (available to advertise for $125, promotion products (company receives banner recognition at the outing and food and beverage (snack items for lunch, sausage, pizza, orange juice, bloody Mary mix, treats).

ASMV to host Autism Warrior competition
CANFIELD
The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley invites the community to test their skills at the new Autism Warrior competition from 8 a.m. to noon June 8 at the Canfield Fairgrounds. An expansion of the nonprofit’s annual Valley Autism 5K and Autism Support Walk, the Autism Warrior event will bring together the region’s best athletes and families to compete for prizes in the 5K, Ninja Obstacle Course and People-Powered Tractor Pull.
The event also features a Special Needs Resource Fair to bring together local resources for families affected by autism and other special needs.

Rabies clinic planned
YOUNGSTOWN
The city health district will have a rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets over 3 months old from 2 to 3 p.m. June 8 in the parking deck at 345 Oak Hill Ave., next to Oakhill Renaissance Place.
Rabies vaccinations are required in Mahoning County. The cost is $6 per shot. No appointment is necessary. Pet owners must have their pets on a leash, in a cage or restrained.
