The Canfield Swim and Tennis Club celebrated its 50th anniversary with a day filled with fun and games, swimming, food and a little friendly competition on July 14.

The club, established in 1969, has been in the same location since its inception. A commemorative plaque was dedicated at the entrance of the club during the celebration. The event was open to members and the public with a nominal fee.

The fun-filled day included, complimentary doughnuts, a lemonade stand, Kona Ice and a complimentary dinner of pulled pork sliders, corn on the cob, hot dogs and tomato and cucumber salad. The event ended with entertainment from a DJ and Float Night, during which root beer floats and Handel’s pops were available to purchase.

The Canfield Swim and Tennis Club swim team also put on a exhibition for attendees in the morning. A bocce ball tournament took place for adults and a three-on-three basketball tournament was scheduled for boys and girls in grades four through 12.

A 50/50 raffle was available and a raffle to have one member’s 2020 dues paid in full was a hot ticket throughout the day.

“Today is a celebration of 50 years of a Canfield establishment which has served the community well. Members of our swim team and tennis team have developed their skills here at a young age and have carried those skills to the high school to be able to compete at that level,” said Gretchen Merritt, CSTC social director.

Merritt was joined by the 50th anniversary committee, including Lori Murphy, Jen Dawson and Barb Gonda, in planning the event.
