CLUBS

First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown welcomes Shannen Dee Williams, Ph.D., at 11:30 a.m. Thursday to Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. Dr. Williams, assistant professor of history at Villanova University in Philadelphia will speak on “The Real Sister Act: Black Catholic Nuns and the Long Struggle to Desegregate U.S. Religious Life.” There will be an opportunity for questions to follow. Outspokin’ Wheelmen Bicycle Club offers a varied choice of bicycle rides daily and is seeking new members. The club is inviting anyone interested to meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Lisbon Trailhead for a low to moderately-paced ride (ride is 10 to 15 miles). No rider will be left behind. Round Table Woodcarvers meet every Thursday from 9 to 11:45 a.m. at the Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Anyone interested is welcome. For information, call 330-792-4355.

Trumbull County Travel Club has the following trips planned: Aug. 14, the oddities of the Canton area; Sept. 9-17, vacation to South Dakota; and a Nov. 2 outing for a gingerbread tour in Pennsylvania. The club is open to anyone over 21. There are no dues, and meetings are twice a year at various locations within the area. Trumbull County residency is not required to travel with the club. POLITICAL GROUPS

Trumbull County Federated Democratic Women are announcing two major events. At 6 p.m. Aug. 5, the group will celebrate the annual picnic at Perkins Park in Warren and on Oct. 6, the group invites the public to its annual card party at the Howland Community Church with tickets available from any member.

RELIGIOUS GROUPS

Youngstown South Christian Women’s Connection will host an “O What a Beautiful Morning” luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. The event will feature a fashion show by Chico’s. Guest speaker will be Shirley Davidson and her topic will be “Memories of the Girl Who Can, and the Woman Who Can’t.” Cost is $14, which includes lunch. SUPPORT GROUPS

NAMI Mahoning Valley offers a Connections support group that meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 6 p.m. at Alta Care, 142 Javit Court, Austintown. NAMI Mahoning Valley also offers Family Support Groups that provide information and support for family members and friends of individuals with mental illness. Family groups meet the first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St.; and the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Alta Care.
