Poland forest board plans to add new deer exclosure

POLAND

Poland Municipal Forest Board is on track to add an additional deer exclosure to the forest.

The purpose of a deer exclosure is to preserve a section of land to allow plants to thrive unhindered by deer grazing.

“It would be great for the public in a very short period of time to see the effects of white-tail deer grazing,” said forest board member Ian Renne.

Renne, a professor at Youngstown State University, will be giving a talk sponsored by the Friends of the Poland Municipal Forest on white-tail deer at 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at Poland Library.

Additionally, bids for the Mauthe Bridge restoration project will be accepted beginning today and will be collected until Aug. 21.

The board hopes to start work on the bridge in the fall.
