MCJFB hosts meets, plans for Canfield Fair

CANFIELD

The Mahoning County Junior Fair Board recently held its July meeting at the Canfield Fairgrounds. The group went over Junior Fair work schedules and responsibilities for the fair next month. Junior Fair Board members help with daily activities during the fair such as preparing the coliseum for judging events, assisting judges during livestock shows, being tour guides on the people movers and making sure the area is clean.

The special features and public relations committees met during the meeting to wrap up final ideas and plans for the fair. Special features include subcommittees for the dance, the Youth Day program, Battle of the Barns competition, the ice cream social and the talent show.

Meetings and work days will be held throughout the remainder of July and into August at the fairgrounds. Junior Fair Board’s next scheduled meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Junior Fair Restaurant.

Helping Other Women to host forum Aug. 1

YOUNGSTOWN

Helping Other Women Inc. will host a National Girlfriends Day Forum from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Aug. 1 at Eastside Library, 430 Early Road. All women, their friends and family members are invited. Judge Renee DiSalvo will be the guest speaker. Respond by Friday by calling Dollaine at 330-207-9625 and leave a message. There will be refreshments and giveaways.

Fostering and adoption forum planned

POLAND

The Church of the Rock, 7025 Luteran Lane, will host a fostering and adoption forum at 7 p.m. Sunday. Five local couples will share their stories and give audience members an honest look at the joys and challenges from their experience.

Library to offer Google class Tuesday

SALEM

Google offers users a practical opportunity to create forms suitable for a variety of needs. Technology instructor Kathy Bennett will offer a step-by-step introduction to this tool from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St. Participants are asked to bring a device to practice. Seating is limited and registration is required.

Society to host open houses

POLAND

The Poland Historical Society will host an open house of the Little Red Schoolhouse, 4515 Center Road, from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 11. Society members will be available to answer questions.
