Butler centennial concert

Butler centennial concert

Norman Rockwell’s painting “Lincoln the Railsplitter” is one of the works of art that is set to music in “Impressions at the Butler,” a suite of music by acclaimed Hollywood composer Gregory Prechel. The 20-minute piece was commissioned by the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and premiered in 2009 . It creates a sonic portrayal of several of the Butler Institute of American Art’s signature paintings. The YSO will perform “Impressions” at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Butler’s North Building, which is adjacent to the museum at 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown. The concert is a centerpiece of the Butler’s 100th anniversary celebration year. Tickets are $20; call 234-228-8555. The concert will also include Bernstein’s “Candide Overture,” followed by Gershwin’s “American in Paris.” Prechel’s “Impressions” will close the concert.
