Another year means another trip to the Junior League Softball World Series for the Canfield-Poland Little League Junior softball team.

Canfield-Poland defeated Kentucky’s Russell County 15-5 in five innings to win the Central Region title in Pendleton, Ind. It is the team’s fourth consecutive trip to the Little League World Series.

Russell County led 3-2 before an 11-run fourth inning pushed the game out of reach. Canfield-Poland went undefeated in regional play.

Emma Wolfe had four RBIs for Canfield-Poland while Mia Opalick, Alaina Scavina and Emily Denney each had three.

Denney, Opalick and Scavina all went 3 for 4. Wolfe, Opalick and Denney each scored twice and Scavina touched home three times.

Opalick struck out seven in a complete game. Tarryn Reynolds struck out two in four innings of work for Russell County.

The World Series will be played in Kirkland, Wash., beginning on Sunday.

Pony Fastpitch

The Valley Extreme Girls Bucks 14U softball team won the national championship on Wednesday in Loudon, Va. Valley Extreme beat Black Diamonds Acker 6-1 at the Potomack Lakes Sportsplex.

The roster is made of players of Mahoning and Trumbull Counties.

The team won the USSSA Northeast 14U National Championship last year and the USSSA Road to Orlando 12U National Championship in 2017.

Boardman Junior Baseball

Due to weather, the Little League Junior baseball tournament games were postponed.

The Boardman Little League Junior baseball team’s game is scheduled for today at 6 p.m. Boardman will play the Pymatuning Valley-Enon winner.

The Mason-Rock Hill game will also be played at 3 p.m. today. The loser bracket final will be noon on Wednesday with the championship following at 3 p.m.

Boardman Major Baseball

The Boardman 12U baseball team defeated Maumee 16-0 in five innings on Monday in the Ohio Little League tournament in New Albany.

Boardman will face Ashtabula in an elimination game at 1 p.m. today.

Boardman lost to Galion 2-0 on Sunday to fall into the losers bracket.
