Library to host History of WASP

SALEM

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a program about the history of women pilots during WWII (WASP) at 6:30 p.m. July 29 in the Quaker Room. ‘Go Wild in the Park’ takes place July 31

Salem Parks and Recreation and Salem Public Library will host a program, “Beautiful Butterflies” at 6:30 p.m. July 31 at Waterworth Memorial Park, 866 Sunset Blvd. The program will be presented by Jim Nero of Beech Creek Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve in Alliance. YWCA will present GEO C Storms YWCA

The YWCA Mahoning Valley, 375 N. Park Ave., will present GEO C Storms at the YWCA from 5 to 10 p.m. Aug. 2. The event is open to music fans age 12 and older. A talent show will take place from 5 to 6; happy hour is 5 to 7; and the concert will be from 7 to 10. Presale tickets are available for $10 or $15 at the door. Student is awarded scholarship to UA

The annual Brenda Rae Haun Scholarship in the amount of $1,200 recently was awarded to Julianne First. First is a 2019 graduate of Brookfield High School and plans to attend the University of Akron to major in psychology and then to attend the University of Akron School of Law.

She was involved in soccer, softball, track, cross country, marching and concert band, was involved in Students Against Destructive Decisions, a member of the National Honor Society and more.
