Learn about staying well in a three-part series ‘Healthy Women’

This summer, area women of all ages are invited to attend a free, three-part summer series to learn about important health strategies for staying well throughout their life stages.

The “Healthy Women: Summer Series” is hosted by Salem Regional Medical Center, 1995 E. State St., and features SRMC-affiliated physicians and health care professionals, who will discuss health topics of special interest to area women.

Kicking off the series at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the topic will focus on “Screenings and Prevention.” Featured speakers are Stephanie Mathews, “BRCA Testing and Breast Health Exams; Dr. Priya Patel, “Important Health Screenings,” and Dr. Stephanie Raynish, family medicine, “Benefits of Exercise.”

Upcoming programs are “Health Screening & Aging Issues” on Aug. 8, and “Healthy Habits for Women” on Aug. 22.

Each session in the series will take place in SRMC’s Tower Conference Room, located on the hospital’s ground floor concourse. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the presentations begin at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will also be served.

Akron Children’s emergency department receives award

Akron Children’s Hospital’s emergency department located on the Beeghly campus on Market Street has received the Emergency Nurses Association’s 2019 Lantern Award for employees demonstrating exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research.

“This recognition is a tribute to their hard work and commitment to excellence,” said Christine Young, Akron Children’s Chief Nursing Officer.

The award – named in honor of Florence Nightingale, who famously worked to improve and change nursing care in the 19th century – recognizes emergency departments that demonstrate excellent practice and innovative performance through leadership, education, advocacy and research.

Wellness course offered by Dr. D’Amato end of month

CANFIELD

Soma Essential Healing & Wellness, a Youngstown-based wellness company, in collaboration with Dr. Andria D’Amato, practitioner/owner of the Red Lotus Holistic Center, 45 Manor Hill, Suite 300, will offer a free 2 1/2-hour “Ecology of Wellness Mini Course” at 7 p.m. July 31 at the center.

The course will educate the community in the many alternative health and healing options available for attaining vibrant health and long-term wellness, according to a news release.
