Lavastida’s three hits lead Scrappers to victory

BATAVIA, N.Y.

Mahoning Valley catcher Bryan Lavastida singled, doubled, tripled and had two RBIs as the Scrappers beat the Batavia Muckdogs 5-4 on Sunday in a New York-Penn League game.

Raynel Delgado singled twice and drove in a run for Mahoning Valley. Henry Pujols singled twice, and Brayan Rocchio and George Valera also drove in runs for Mahoning Valley.

Brian Eichhorn (2-1) allowed five hits and two runs (one earned) in five innings for the win. He walked two and struck out three.

Reliever Jose Oca worked 21/3 innings and allowed a hit and two unearned runs. Luis Sanchez went 11/3 scoreless innings for his first save.

Mahoning Valley (18-18) won despite committing four errors — all of them on the infield.

The Scrappers and Muckdogs (22-14) finish their series at 11:05 a.m. today.
