The Canfield library celebrated the books of Laura Numeroff with stories, crafts and more for children of all ages on July 6.

Amanda Kollar, assistant supervisor, youth librarian, and Lyndsay Cramer, children’s librarian, hosted the story time.

Kollar started the afternoon with a recording of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” during which the children could follow along while she flipped through the story book.

Kollar then read a fill-in-the-blank of a portion of the story, while the children yelled out the answers. Next, Kollar led the children in dancing to “Do the Mouse Cookie Song” during which the children clapped, jumped and danced.

Cramer then read the children “If You Give a Cat a Cupcake,” while Kollar animated the story with a puppet show. Next, the children gathered to play picture bingo, with a bingo card full of pictures from Numeroff’s books. They were asked to match their bingo cards with photos Kollar and Cramer pulled from a bag and were awarded a prize of stickers when they had bingo.

To end the story time, Kollar and Cramer invited the children to create two crafts they had set up on tables. At the first table, in keeping with the theme of Numeroff’s book, “If You Give a Cat a Cupcake,” children could decorate a cupcake with stickers and ‘sprinkles.’ At the second craft table, children could create a mouse out of the letter M by adding eyes, ears, a nose and whiskers, as in the book “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.”

Kollar and Cramer also had Numeroff book themed coloring sheets, a maze sheet, connect the dots and find the hidden objects sheets for the children to complete at the library or take home if they wished. Several Numeroff books were also available for the children to check-out and read at home.
