Tanisha Franklin named East AD

YOUNGSTOWN

Tanisha Franklin, coach of the East High School girls basketball team, is also that school’s athletic director.

She will oversee East’s athletic department, handling the scheduling, day-to-day meetings with the coaching staff, media inquiries, permitting, practice schedules, bus and food service schedules.

Franklin also has worked in player development at the school.

Traci Cain, who has served at East’s athletic director for many years, will continue to handle game-day operations while Franklin transitions into the role. The change allows Cain to concentrate on other roles she fills at East including honors teacher, senior class adviser, student council adviser and many others.

Clemente 4th at Junior Girls Championship

Marion

Gianna Clemente, an 11-year-old from Warren, is fourth after one round at the WOSGA Ohio Junior Girls Championship at Marion Country Club.

Clemente shot a 73 and is five shots off the leader, Hillsboro’s Kristin Jamieson.

Cortland’s Aaryanna Morris is tied for 25th with a 79, Poland’s Alyssa Rapp had an 89 and Youngstown’s Jayne Bernard (93) and Grace Ogden (102) rounded out the locals.

YSU offering 2019 football ticket package

Youngstown

The Youngstown State Athletic Ticket Office is offering a four-game ticket package for football season. The Penguins play seven home games, but the four-game package gives fans a chance to select the games they would like to attend.

The cost of the package is $65 for each ticket, which offers fans a $15 discount on a normal four-game single-game ticket price.

YSU’s home slate features three non-conference games in September and four Missouri Valley Football Conference contests in the final two months of the season.

Bartoletti to speak at Marathon Dinner

Youngstown

Marie Bartoletti, of Bethel Park, Pa., an avid runner and author has agreed to speak at the Youngstown Marathon Spaghetti Dinner and to pace the 5:15 marathoners.

Bartoletti has been running for 24 years and has completed more than 450 marathons. Out of those races, 370 are marathons Bartoletti has paced the runners to their desired time.

Bartoletti has been pacing runners because “it makes me feel good to help others.” Bartoletti is an inspiration because despite having suffered from a stroke that required rehabilitation she continues to run and has written a book “Perseverance” that is due out this summer that talks about her experiences.

Bartoletti is hoping that the Youngstown Marathon will include runners she has paced in the past.

After completing her first marathon in Pittsburgh, Bartoletti has continued to add to her running resume with: 10 Ironman including Kona the world championships; cover of the Wheaties Box (2003); Badwater 135 miles (2008); Western States 100 miles (2007); 10 100-mile races; numerous 50k, 50-mile, and 100k races; and Abbot Six World Majors (2019).
