Scrappers split doubleheader

Scrappers pitchers Matt Turner and Tim Herrin combined to toss a seven-inning shutout in Monday’s opening game of a doubleheader against the Williamsport Crosscutters.
But after the Scrappers won 4-0, it was the visiting team’s turn to shine at Eastwood Field as the Crosscutters won, 3-0.
In the opener, Turner (2-2) allowed just three hits in the six innings he pitched. He struck out four batters and walked none.
Herrin gave up one hit in seventh inning and whiffed a batter.
Jonathan Lopez’s two-run single in the third inning helped the Scrappers jump to a 3-0 lead.
Johnathan Rodriguez had the Scrappers’ other RBI.
Bryan Lavastida had one of the Scrappers’ four hits and he scored twice.
George Valera and Michael Cooper each had a hit and scored once.
For the Crosscutters (5-18), Nicholas Torres had two of the team’s four hits.
Hunter Markwardt had the only RBI in the second game.
Torres, McCarthy Tatum and Corbin Williams scored the runs.
Alejandro Made (1-1) earned the victory in relief, striking out one in two innings.
Francis Cespedes (2-1) took the loss for the Scrappers in relief of Brendan Meyer. Cespedes allowed two runs on four hits.
Cooper and Brayan Rocchio doubled for the Scrappers (13-11).
