The ninth annual Clubs for Kids Golf Classic to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley is Aug. 2 at Youngstown Country Club. Before the adult golf outing, a Clubs for Kids Youth Clinic, sponsored by the Tod Family Foundation, will be from 9 to 11 a.m. in three age groups: 6 to 8, 9 to 11, and 12 to 14.

Space is available for the youth clinic, as are hole sponsorship opportunities and reception-only tickets. The reception includes cocktails, dinner, presentation of prizes and a silent auction.

Childhood immunizations

WARREN

The Warren City Health District, 258 E. Market St., Suite 327, is offering childhood immunization clinics for July through September on the following days and times: July 15 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.; Aug. 5 and 19 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.; and Sept. 9 and 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. A special clinic is from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 27.

Appointments are not required. The child should be well, free of fever, rash or illness. An updated shot record is required. The fee is $21.25 per shot. Medicaid is accepted. Participants are asked to bring insurance cards. For information, call 330-841-2596.

Foot care on Fridays

YOUNGSTOWN

Podiatric physicians, led by Dr. Jennifer Flo of NOMS Ankle & Foot Care Centers, are offering routine foot care at Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, on the last Friday of every month. Attendees must provide picture ID and insurance information. For information, call 330-744-5071.

Routine foot care includes a foot exam, nail and callus care, which is covered by Medicare and Medicaid every 61 days.

Ohio ranked 33rd most dangerous for seniors

Senior Living.org, an online information site, using data from the Centers for Disease Control on fatal and nonfatal injuries across the country, has determined that Ohio is the 33rd most dangerous state for seniors.

According to the study, “The Most Dangerous States for Seniors,” in 2018, there were 15.9 overall violent deaths per 100,000 people; 1.9 homicides per 100,000 people; and 14 suicides per 100,000 people.

OSU gets $6M grant

COLUMBUS

Research at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center to create a new therapy for a disease that causes abnormal heart rhythms has received a $6 million grant from the Leducq Foundation.

The 2019 Transatlantic Networks of Excellence Program grant was awarded to Peter Mohler, vice dean of research at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and his international collaborators.
