Poland-Canfield softball team wins state crown

The Poland-Canfield Junior Little League Softball team defeated Ironton by scores of 20-1 and 22-1 to win the Little League Junior Softball state championship on Saturday in Proctorville.

Poland/Canfield advances to regional play in Pendleton, Ind., on July 19.

In other state tournaments, Canfield’s 12U softball team lost its first game in Wheelersburg to West Portsmouth, 10-5, before bouncing back with a 16-0 win against Geneva.

Canfield will face an opponent to be determined today in an elimination game.

In the District 2 baseball tournaments at Fields of Dreams, Poland 10U is set to face Howland today at 6 p.m. after defeating Boardman, 3-2. The winner advances to play Canfield in the winner bracket final. The loser of that game plays the Poland-Howland winner in an elimination game on Wednesday. Canfield defeated Austintown, 15-4. Boardman plays Austintown today at 2 p.m. in a loser bracket elimination game.

For 9-year-old tournament, Poland defeated Canfield, 16-1 and Boardman beat Austintown, 18-2. Boardman faces Poland today at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship game. Canfield plays Austintown today at 6 p.m. in a loser bracket elimination game.

In 11U play, Boardman beat Howland 15-3 while Poland defeated Austintown 17-3. Boardman faces Poland at 8 tonight with the winner going to the championship game. Howland plays Austintown in a loser bracket elimination game tonight at 6.

In Major Division 12U baseball, Canfield defeated Poland 14-1 while Boardman defeated Austintown, 11-5. Boardman faces Canfield tonight at 8 p.m. with the winner going to the championship game. Poland plays Austintown in a loser bracket elimination game tonight at 6.

In the State Intermediate Tournament, Boardman Little League lost to Loveland Little League, 18-1, and will play Green today at 4 p.m. in an elimination game.
