Teacher receives ‘outstanding’ award

The Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities, also know as The Fairhaven Project, recently announced that Carol Kirsch, an adaptive physical education teacher at Fairhaven School, was named as a recipient of the Franklin B. Walter Outstanding Educator Award.

The award is presented to an educator from each of Ohio’s 16 State Support Team regions and recognizes those who have made extraordinary contributions to the education of students with disabilities.

Kirsch assisted in the expansion of the Special Olympics program and facilitated bringing in local high school pep bands and cheerleading squads to work with students.

Kirsch will be honored as the Teacher of the Year at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Weathersfield Township meeting. For information, visit www.fairhavenpgm.com.

Library to host moon viewing

LISBON

The Lepper Library, 303 E. Lincoln Way, will host a viewing of the first quarter moon through a telescope at 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The program also is hosted by the Mahoning Valley Astronomical Society. Rain date is Friday. Judy McCullough will host a presentation.

MVHS to host ‘History to Go’

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host a Fifth Avenue Walking Tour at noon, 12:30 p.m., 1 and 1:30 July 13. The tour is part of the MVHS “History to Go” program.

There will be a shuttle bus available for the noon and 1:30 tours only.

Start and finish locations will be announced prior to the event. Pre-registration is required at mahoninghistory.org/events.

The event will take place rain or shine. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

Mount Union to host Summer Snapshot

The University of Mount Union, 1972 Clark Ave., will host its Summer Snapshot event from 5:30 to 8 p.m. July 18. Participants will have the opportunity to picnic, learn about Mount Union’s academic programs, ask questions and explore the campus.
