AROUND THE HORN Friday’s other MLB games

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Orioles 4, Blue Jays 1

TORONTO

Chris Davis homered and had three RBIs, Dylan Bundy pitched 62/3 innings of one-run ball to snap a four-start losing streak and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Bundy (4-10) delivered a strong performance, allowing three hits and one run with six strikeout and two walks. Richard Bleier retired three of the four batters he faced and Miguel Castro got Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to fly out with a man at first and two outs in the eighth. Paul Fry finished in the ninth for his second save in three opportunities. Davis opened the scoring with a two-out drive in the second, his seventh. Davis has 40 career home runs against Toronto, more than any other opponent. He’s gone deep 20 times at Rogers Centre, his highest total at any road ballpark. With the Orioles up 2-1 in the ninth, Davis gave Baltimore some breathing room with a two-run single off Joe Biagini. It was Davis’ first multi-RBI game since driving in a pair of runs against the Angels on May 10.

Angels 5, Astros 4

HOUSTON

Mike Trout hit his American League-leading 26th homer, and Kole Calhoun, Shohei Ohtani and Andrelton Simmons also went deep to give the Los Angeles Angels win. Calhoun, Ohtani and Simmons all connected off Houston starter Justin Verlander (10-4) as he gave up three home runs for the third time in his last five starts. The three homers tied a season high for Verlander and he also matched a season high by allowing four runs in seven innings. The Angels won for the third time in the four games since pitcher Tyler Skaggs was found dead in his hotel room on Monday. The victory snaps a seven-game skid against Houston and ends a five-game winning streak overall by the Astros.

Yankees 8, Rays 4, 11 innings

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.

Aaron Judge hit his second homer of the game leading off the 11th inning, Brett Gardner added a three-run shot and the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays. Judge connected on the first pitch from Ryne Stanek (0-2) to give him nine career multihomer games. The big slugger also went deep in the first against two-way player Brendan McKay as New York extended its AL East lead over Tampa Bay to a season-high 81/2 games.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Phillies 7, Mets 2

NEW YORK

Jay Bruce hit a go-ahead single in the ninth inning off closer Edwin Diaz, Mets manager Mickey Callaway lost an early replay challenge that might have cost him late and the Philadelphia Phillies beat New York. Nine days after blowing a save in Philadelphia, Diaz (1-6) allowed J.T. Realmuto’s double and Bruce’s RBI single to start the ninth, which snapped a 2-all tie. The Phillies poured it on after that, batting around and scoring five runs against Diaz, Jeurys Familia and Luis Avilan. Jean Segura drove in two with a double, and Bryce Harper scored him with a two-base hit to cap a rocky day that started with three strikeouts against Mets ace Jacob deGrom.

INTERLEAGUE

Royals 7, Nationals 4, 11 innings

WASHINGTON

Adalberto Mondesi hit a go-ahead single in the 11th inning, and the Kansas City Royals outlasted the Washington Nationals to snap a four-game losing streak. The Nationals, who had won four in a row and eight of their last nine, left 19 men on base — including the bases loaded in the sixth, seventh and 10th innings. Jonny Venters (0-1), Washington’s fifth reliever, loaded the bases with no outs before striking out Whit Merrifield. However, Mondesi poked a single to left past a drawn-in infield to score a run. Alex Gordon then hit a grounder to first baseman Ryan Zimmerman, whose wild throw home allowed two runs to score. Brian Flynn (2-0) escaped a bases-loaded jam of his own creation in the 10th, and Wily Peralta worked the 11th for his second save. Zimmerman delivered his 1,000th RBI with a double in the seventh to pull Washington within 4-2. He added another off Kansas City closer Ian Kennedy in the ninth, then scored on Brian Dozier’s single. Trea Turner hit his fifth career leadoff home run off Kansas City starter Brad Keller, extending Washington’s franchise-record of games with a homer to 19. It was the only run the Nationals managed off Keller, who allowed six hits and five walks in 52/3 innings. Kansas City scored two runs in both the third and the fifth off Washington starter Austin Voth, who lasted 41/3 innings in his third start of the season.
