Staff report

Williamsport, Pa.

Matt Turner pitched five innings of three-hit baseball and threw his first shutout in the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ 7-0 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters on Tuesday.

Turner (1-2) struck out two before a rain delay put an early end to the game.

It was the Scrappers’ first shutout of the season, and the first since they beat the Crosscutters 2-0 in Williamsport on Aug. 10.

Tom Sutera (0-3) allowed five runs — three earned — on eight hits, striking out three in 21/3 innings for Williamsport (4-14)

The first three batters of the game reached base for the Scrappers (10-8).

Korey Holland and Ray Delgado hit singles and Brayan Ricchio reached on an error by shortstop Nate Fassnacht.

Michael Cooper’s two-run single and a fielder’s choice gave the Scrappers a 3-0 lead.

Holland and Ricchio hit back-to-back doubles to extend the lead to 4-0 in the second.

Eric Rodriguez and George Valera hit RBI doubles in the third and fourth innings respectively.

Ricchio scored on a delayed steal in the sixth.

The final game of the series is today at 7:05 p.m.
