Treating sinus problems

On July 10 at 6:30 p.m., otolaryngologist Dr. Terrence Zipfel, who is affiliated with Salem Regional Medical Center, will present a program, “Sinus Problems and Treatment Choices,” at Salem Public Library’s monthly Wellness Wednesday program. Tax-free income for vets

YOUNGSTOWN

Heritage Manor Rehabilitation & Retirement Community will host a program by the Senior Veterans Administration Services of Ohio to discuss tax-free income available to wartime veterans and their surviving spouses at 2 p.m. July 12 at Heritage Manor, 517 Gypsy Lane.

They will primarily discuss the Aid & Attendance Improved Pension Benefit, which is available to veterans who were in active service during a time of war, and to their surviving spouses and dependent children. The event is free and open to the public. For information, call 330-746-1076 ext. 207.

Lifeguard classes

WARREN

Trumbull Family Fitness, 210 High St. NW, is offering lifeguard blended learning certification and lifeguard recertification classes. The costs are $250 for the general public and $200 for Trumbull Family Fitness members. The lifeguard certification classs is $125 for nonmembers and $100 for members.

MCBDD accreditation

The Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities has received a three-year accreditation from the State of Ohio, the maximum the state awards. Accreditation is a comprehensive process designed to assist county boards like MCBDD in continuously improving the quality of their services and supports for individuals with disabilities and their families. According to the state, Mahoning County is in substantial compliance with state standards.

Scam targets seniors

The Ohio Department of Insurance and the Ohio Department of Aging are warning Ohioans of a new scam targeting seniors who it said should be cautious of genetic-testing firms visiting senior communities or making unsolicited phone calls and mailings related to DNA screenings collecting consumers’ personal information.

Anyone who suspects wrongdoing or who believes they’ve been victimized should call the Ohio Department of Insurance’s Fraud and Enforcement Hotline at 800-686-1527 or the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program at 800-686-1578. Older Ohioans and their loved ones can learn more about scams and other forms of elder abuse and exploitation, along with ways to prevent and report them, on the Ohio Department of Aging’s website, www.aging.ohio.gov/elderabuse.
