Kevin Hogue had to choose between a place he grew and developed in and going home.

After nine years as a teacher, coach and athletic director at Jackson-Milton, Hogue, a 2005 Hubbard graduate, is heading back to the place where it all began.

“I’m going home,” Hogue said. “The decision was not an easy one to make. Jackson-Milton is a great community.

“One thing it shares with Hubbard is a blue-collar mentality,” said Hogue, Hubbard High School’s new athletic director. “We’ve done some incredible things at Jackson-Milton in the classrooms and on the playing fields.

“It was definitely a hard decision,” said Hogue who taught social studies. “It was definitely one I had to ponder. I’m going to miss those families. I’ll keep those friendships there and make new and rekindle old relationships at Hubbard.”

After nine years of teaching social studies, Hogue will move away from the classroom and into the athletic director’s office.

“At Jackson-Milton, I was teaching full-time, I was the AD and I was a coach,” Hogue said. “There are a lot more teams at Hubbard and I look forward to moving ahead and working with all of the teams and the hours that I’ll be putting in.

“I will miss being in the classroom,” Hogue said. “That’s why I got into all of this. I look at the classrooms now and there’s an extension to the fields. The walls of the classroom are just bigger for me.

“I’ll use the fields as a classroom. There will be plenty of opportunities to still be a leader, it’s just not with bells going off at the end of class.”

Hogue is stepping into a position he believes is a solid one given the support of the school district.

“Mr. [Chuck] Montgomery, the AD I’m replacing, Mr. [Raymond] Soloman, the superintendent, and all of the coaches at Hubbard have done a great job,” Hogue said. “They have a lot of respect locally and among the college levels.

“We will focus on the student-athlete and make sure they are positive student actors once they graduate high school.”

Hogue is stepping into his new position as the Eagles prepare for their first full school year in the Northeast 8.

“I’m excited to work with everyone in the Northeast 8,” Hogue said. “Everyone has been more than welcoming the last few days. It’s a good fit.”

As he makes the transition from Jackson-Milton to Hubbard, Hogue has the full support of his wife, Jenna, who teaches at Lakeview High School.

“We play each other in Week 7 [of the football season], so I’m sure that will make for an interesting week at the Hogue household,” he said.
