Crosscutters bats pound Scrappers

WILLIAMSPORT, PA.

For three innings, Scrappers starter Liam Jenkins held the Williamsport Crosscutters’ bats in check, keeping Tuesday’s New York-Penn League game scoreless.

Things did not go well for Mahoning Valley (9-8) shortly thereafter.

The Crosscutters (4-13) tagged Jenkins for three runs in the fourth inning and another three in the fifth, knocking Jenkins from the game in a 9-1 loss to Williamsport.

Only three of the runs were earned against Jenkins.

Jose Oca relieved Jenkins (0-2) and gave up the Crosscutters’ other three runs.

Trailing 8-0 in the sixth inning, the Scrappers scored when Michael Cooper singled to bring home Bryan Lavastida.

Raynel Delgado and George Valera each had two of the Scrappers’ six hits.

The Scrappers stranded eight baserunners.

Corbin Williams paced the Crosscutters with three hits. He scored once.

Juan Aparicio doubled and drove in three runs. Kendall Simmons had two hits and scored twice.

McCarthy Tatum and Logan O’Hoppe each drove in two runs. Tatum tripled and scored. Nate Fassnacht scored twice.

The Scrappers continue their three-game series against the Crosscutters tonight and Wednesday.

They Scrappers will return to Eastwood Field on Thursday to begin a six-game homestand against the State College Spikes.

INDIANS PROSPECT

Sunday, outfielder Daniel Johnson had three hits included two doubles for the Columbus Clippers (Triple A). He scored twice in a 7-6 loss to the Louisville Bats.

It was Cleveland’s No. 22 farmhand second three-hit game in the past week.

Johnson doubled to right and scored in the fourth, doubled to left and came home in the sixth and singled to left in the eighth.
