YSU baseball players earn recognition


D1Baseball.com has projected Youngstown State freshman pitcher and infielder Travis Perry to be the Horizon League Freshman of the Year in its 2019 conference preview. Three other Penguins were noted as top draft prospects for 2019 and 2020.

During his prep career, Perry was ranked the No. 24 overall prospect in the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 9 pitcher by Prep Baseball Report. The Oil City, Pa, native helped lead Rocky Grove High School to three straight district titles, and was named the District 10 Region 1 Player of the Year two seasons in a row.

D1Baseball also noted junior infielder Blaze Glenn, sophomore infielder Jeff Wehler and sophomore outfielder Lucas Nasonti as top draft prospects in the conference. Glenn was ranked the No. 7 prospect for the 2019 draft, while Wehler and Nasonti were No. 3 and 4 respectively for 2020. Nasonti is a Champion graduate.
