Dunn earns Player of the Week honors

Youngstown State junior forward Mary Dunn has been named the Nike Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Jan. 21-27, the conference office announced on Monday.

Dunn has earned the award for a second time this season, and it is the fifth time that a Penguin has won it. Dunn was also the conference honoree on Jan. 7.

Dunn averaged 22.5 points, nine rebounds and 2.5 blocks while shooting 72 percent from the field in a pair of Penguins victories last week. She notched her third double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds in Monday’s come-from-behind win over Northern Kentucky. The Washington, Pa., native had 10 points and six rebounds in the fourth period alone as YSU outscored the Norse 31-12 in the final 10 minutes. Her five blocks against NKU were the most by a Penguin in a game since March 2015. Dunn then scored 22 points and had seven rebounds in just 18 minutes in Saturday’s victory over Cleveland State.

Dunn is averaging 13.3 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting 54.9 percent from the field this season. She ranks seventh in the Horizon League in scoring, and she’s fourth in field-goal percentage, fifth in blocks, eighth in free-throw percentage and 10th in rebounding.
