Watson breaks YSU record at Penn State


STATE COLLEGE, Pa.

Sophomore Daiquain Watson set a new school record in the high jump as the rest of the Youngstown State men’s and women’s track and field wrapped up their final day of competition at the Penn State National Elite Invitational.

On his fifth jump of the afternoon, Watson broke his previous school record by .11m with a leap of 7.30m. The jump by Watson also earned him a third place finish in the event.

Junior Collin Harden ran a time of 48.76 seconds in the 400m to record a sixth place finish in the event. Brendon Lucas placed 11th in the 200m after finishing up with a time of 22.25 seconds.

Sophomore Sean Peterson was the winner of the 800m with a 1:54.17 in Heat 3.

Suerethia Henderson took second place in the 200m dash after running a time of 24.68 seconds. Sophomore Antonelle LaMonica also competed in the event and finished in 26.03 seconds.

Iva Domitrovich won her heat in the 400m and placed fifth overall with a 57.97.

Five different Penguins competed in the men’s and women’s 3,000m run. On the women’s side, Jennifer Muhlenkamp finished in 10:21.10, Ashleigh Rowley clocked a time of 10:27.77, and Maggie Sebest finished in 10:35.12. For the men, Chris Butler came in with a time of 8:40.39.

Jamynk Jackson finished ninth in the 200m dash after running a time of 22.25 seconds.

Freshman Ethan Sparks clocked a time of 4:21.24 in the 1 mile run while sophomore Cole Lovett finished in 4:44.28.
