YSU men’s tennis beats Bonnies in opener

The Youngstown State men’s tennis team opened the spring dual season with a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure at the Western Reserve Racquet and Fitness Club on Friday.

The Penguins (1-0) won two of the three doubles matches before claiming four wins in singles against the Bonnies (1-2).

In doubles play, Luke Purser and Pol Virgili Blanco won 6-2 at No. 3 while Yossi Dahan and Erik Gran cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 2 to earn the point. SBU picked up a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.

Purser earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ante Zovko at No. 3 for the Penguins’ first singles win. At No. 5, Gran earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over John Rutkowski for the third YSU victory. The clincher came at No. 1 where Danylo Veremeichuk beat Lukas Linden Malmberg 7-6 (3), 6-0.

YSU returns to action on Sunday when it visits Duquesne. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
