St. Joseph the Provider Church has canceled its pirogi sale that had been scheduled for today. Sales will resume next week.
Exhibition to open Saturday at museum
YOUNGSTOWN
The John J. McDonough Museum of Art on the campus of Youngstown State University will present the 2019 Alumni Exhibition from Jan. 26 to March 7. The exhibition honors art department graduates and celebrates more than 70 years of arts education in the Cliffe College of Creative Arts and Communication at YSU. The exhibition features art in a variety of media by alumni from across the country. Of the 200 plus works entered, 88 pieces by 86 alumni artists were accepted. Participating alumni include professional artists, art educators and representatives from a broad range of fields.
Accounting society will host seminar

The Mahoning Valley Accounting Society will host the seminar, “Social Security – Overview & Update,” Jan. 29 at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St. Registration will be at 8 a.m. followed by the seminar at 8:30. The presenter will be Robert Fenn, SSA public affairs specialist. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers, which includes breakfast. Library to host fossil program

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a family-friendly program about fossils at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30 in the library’s Quaker Room. Cheryl Mattevi, a local geologist, will teach participants how fossils form, how to closely investigate them using some specimens owned by the library and more. Attendees are welcome to bring one or two specimens for identification. Salem Parks and Recreation Department and Salem Public Library partner to bring these programs to the public. There is no cost to attend.
