Members of the Canfield High School swim and dive team hosted their annual pancake breakfast on Jan. 6.

The breakfast, which took place in the Canfield High School cafeteria and was first offered in 1979, raised funds which are used to support the team in various ways.

“The money raised today goes to support the swim and dive program. The money we raise supports coach salaries, team shirts. pool rental fees, meet entry fees, equipment, team suits, the team banquet and awards, after-meet meals and special busing to the NEAC conference championship meet,” said Lisa DiDomenico, co-chair of the breakfast with Lisa Helmick.

The breakfast included pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, tea, milk and orange juice. The 28 swim and dive team members, from freshmen to seniors, took shifts bussing tables, doing dishes, handling take out orders and made sure everyone in the large crowd had enough to eat. Senior members of the team passed out flyers to churches to post prior to the event.

The Swim and Dive Team Booster Club parents organized the event and took over the kitchen to cook the breakfast.

“We’d like to say thank you to our swim parents for helping out so much today, especially in the kitchen. And thank you to the swimmers and divers for all their help. Everyone works together to make this event a success. Thank you to the community for their support, too,” DiDomenico said.

A 50/50 raffle was also available to attendees.

The Canfield swim and dive team head coach is Connor Brady. Assistant coaches are Zoe DiDomenico and Erin Loomis. Ron Navarra serves as the diving coach. The team’s home meets take place at Beeghly Natatorium at Youngstown State University.

DiDomenico, an alumni of Canfield High School and the swim and dive team, said being on the team is a great experience.

“The Canfield swim and dive team is a great experience. You make lots of friends. I loved it so much I’m back for another turn, serving as an assistant coach,” DiDomenico said.
