YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State’s football team will have its earliest start in school history followed by three straight home games this fall, the school announced on Wednesday.

YSU, which went 4-7 last season, will play Samford on Aug. 24 in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff in Montgomery, Ala. The Penguins are playing 12 games for the first time since 2014. This fall also marks the first season YSU will not play an FBS opponent since 2004. YSU currently has a game scheduled at Michigan State on Sept. 11, 2021 as its next FBS contest.

After a week off following the Samford contest, the Penguins’ next three game are at home. The Penguins host Howard on Sept. 7 and Duquesne on Sept. 14. After another bye week, YSU hosts Robert Morris on Sept. 28.

YSU will open conference play Oct. 5 at Northern Iowa. YSU’s first home conference game on Oct. 12 against South Dakota State is the school’s Homecoming game.

The remaining home games are against Western Illinois (Oct. 26), North Dakota State (Nov. 2.) and the regular season finale against Illnois State on Nov. 23.
