Ursuline postpones Reardon press conference

YOUNGSTOWN

Ursuline High School is closed today due to poor road conditions and low temperatures. According to Ursuline athletic director Sean Durkin, the school’s press conference announcing Dan Reardon’s return as the head football coach has been postponed.

BOYS BASKETBALL

LaBrae, Bristol remain in Top 10 in latest AP state poll

The LaBrae and Bristol boys basketball teams are still sitting in the top 10 in the Associated Press state poll released on Monday. The Vikings (11-1) received 35 points and are 10th in Division III while the Panthers (10-2) received 95 and are sitting in fifth in Div. IV. Poland and Springfield are on the doorstep of the top 10. The Bulldogs received 25 points in Division II and the Tigers received 22 points in Div. IV. Each received a first-place vote.

Austintown Fitch led 24-23 at halftime, but the Polar Bears outscored the Falcons 14-1 in the third quarter to pick up a win at Quicken Loans Arena. Emma Dretke scored a game-high 27 points for Jackson and Rachel Stran added 13. Sabria Hunter led the Falcons with 17 points and Jada Lazaro finished with 13.

WRESTLING

South Range takes fifth in Berkshire Invitational

BURTON

The South Range wrestling team finished fifth in the Berkshire Badger Invitation at Berkshire High School on Monday. The Raiders finished with a team score of 79. Anthony Czap finished first in the 220-pound division while Kyle Keenan (126-pound) and Naseem Maali (132-pound) finished second in their weight classes.

Springfield finished 10th out of 11 teams with 20 points. Springfield’s Kyle DeBucci pinned Ellet’s Justin Reish in the final round of the 170-pound weight class and Hawken’s William Lindsey pinned the Tigers’ Brady Brungard in the seventh round of the 285-pound division.
