The Chaney High School Class of 1953 will meet for breakfast at 10 a.m. Thursday at Eat ’N Park. All spouses and guests are welcome.

ABWA will meet for dinner Feb. 12

The Mill Creek Chapter of ABWA will meet Feb. 12 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. Networking will take place at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30. Menu includes stuffed baked pork chops, Swiss chicken, mashed potatoes, California blend vegetables, tossed salad, applesauce, pickled beets, dessert, coffee and tea. Cost is $18 and reservations may be made by calling Darlene Demjen at 330-755-9089 or Marilyn Abramski at 330-726-2527 by Jan. 31. The installation of the 2018-19 officers will take place. The public is welcome.

Principals host ‘Word of the Day’

Struthers’ principals Roger Day and Mary Ann Meadows created a contest that began in November to help students expand their vocabulary. “Word of the Day” contest is announced each morning with a new word, its definition and an accompanying song that ties in with the word. Teachers encourage students to use the word in classes throughout the day. Sanctimonious, hoodwinked, facetious, campestral, and prerogative are examples. Students also may write a story using all the words from the first semester for a chance to win a prize. The contest has restarted with the beginning of the second semester.
