Comedy-magic act Piff coming to Hollywood casino

Piff The Magic Dragon will come to the Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Casino on Feb. 28 for two performances: 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Tickets are $25 ($40 for VIP) and are on sale at ticketleap.com.

Piff has appeared on “America’s Got Talent” (NBC) and “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” (CW). His comedy magic show is a mix of wizardry, wit and sarcasm, and includes his chihuahua sidekick Mr. Piffles.

Opera singer Brownlee, Owens at Thomas Hall

Tenor opera star Lawrence Brownlee, who is a Youngstown native, and Eric Owens, a bass-baritone, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at E.J. Thomas Hall. Their concert will range from traditional spirituals and gospel favorites to opera and American popular songs.

Tickets are $25, $40, $45 (free for students of any age) and are available at tuesdaymusical.org or by phone at 330-761-3460. Tickets will also be sold at the door. A concert conversation with the two singers will precede the show at 6:30 p.m.

Brownlee has performed on the stages of the world’s leading opera companies. The East High School graduate is also a champion for autism awareness.

Singer-songwriter performance nights

YOUNGSTOWN

A monthly acoustic songwriters showcase will begin Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m. at Kelly’s Bar, 1597 Mahoning Ave. Admission is free.

Five area songwriters will each perform for a half- hour: Diane Drapcho, 7 p.m.; Jim Scott, 7:30 p.m.; Karl Brandt, 8 p.m.; Greg Allyn, 8:30 p.m.; and Curtis Cosner, 9 p.m.

David G. Ward is presenting the showcase. His band, The David G. Ward Project, will take the stage at 9:30 p.m.

The series will take place the next to last Thursday of each month. The next event will be Feb. 21.

Each evening will include five singer-songwriters who will play five songs, of which at least four will be their original work.
