St. Nicholas School, 762 Fifth St., will host its open house from noon to 2 p.m. and a carnival from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 26, in the Great Hall. Registration information will be available for the 2019-20 school year. The carnival is hosted by the Mom’s and Dad’s Club. Tickets are $3 per child or $7 maximum per family, which allows children to play an unlimited number of games. For information, call 330-755-2128.

Polish Youngstown to celebrate Kulig

Polish Youngstown is inviting Mahoning Valley residents to Kulig, a winter celebration, that will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 26 at Ma and Pa’s, 15161 Main St. There will be horse-drawn sleigh rides, roasted kielbasa, dancing and singing, homemade krupnik and maple coffee and stew and baked goods in the Log Cabin.

Cost is $25 for adults, $10 for children age 5 to 17, and free for children age 4 and under. Cost includes a seat on the sleigh, food, beverages and treats. Library to host genealogy program

The topic for the Jan. 28 genealogy program at Salem Public Library is “Internet Resources to Grow Your Family Tree.” The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St. The one-hour program will be presented by Wendy Adkins, senior library associate at Blair Memorial Library at the Kent State University East Liverpool Campus. Through the use of a variety of free online tools, Adkins will demonstrate how to start researching genealogy and ancestry. PERI Mahoning elects president

The Mahoning Chapter of the Public Employee Retirees Inc. recently elected Walter M. Duzzny, of Austintown, president of the group. The group provides representation on OPERS pension benefits and advocacy for all who receive benefits from the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System. Also elected for the chapter was Norma Marzano, secretary. All others retained their offices. The next meeting will take place at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 4 at Avion on the Water in Canfield.
