THURSDAY’S PREP SPORTS AT A GLANCE

SNOW ADJUSTMENTS

Saturday’s expected snowstorm has created postponements for area high school athletics. The Cardinal Mooney girls and boys basketball games have been postponed. The North Royalton-Mooney boys game now will be played on Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. A makeup date for the Mooney-McDonald girls game has not been set. The Valley Christian-Mooney girls game that was postponed on Wednesday will be made up on Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

In Austintown, all events scheduled at Fitch High School have been postponed, but the Fitch girls basketball team will play at Warren Harding at 12:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.

Mineral Ridge has postponed its girls and boys basketball games against Badger until Jan. 26 (5:30 p.m. for the girls, 7 p.m. for the boys).

At Howland High School, the Howland Invitational still will begin at 10 a.m. and rounds will continue until placement matches are set for first-to-eighth place. After a 30-minute break, wrestling will continue until the Parade of Champions at 4:15 p.m. The finals will begin at 4:30 p.m. Cost for the one session ticket is $6 for adults and $4 for students.

PENALTY

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has determined that Liberty High School violated Bylaw 4-9-2, Recruiting, when LaVelle Turnage, a volunteer assistant girls basketball coach, engaged in impermissible activity designed to influence two students to attend Liberty. Turnage is no longer with the team, so the OHSAA’s ruling of a tournament suspension has been satisfied. The OHSAA says Liberty must provide education to its coaching staffs regarding the recruiting bylaw. Liberty was fined $500.
