Purple Star Committee to visit Fitch

AUSTINTOWN

The Ohio Department of Education’s Purple Star Committee will travel to Austintown Fitch High School at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to visit the Purple Star Room, a repurposed room at the high school for military-connected students/meeting place for military related activities or events. The ODE Purple Star Committee awards schools that show major commitment to students and families connected to the nation’s military. Upon learning about the award, an idea was sparked for the Purple Star Room, knowing more could be done for military-connected students in the district. Austintown Fitch High School was awarded with a Purple Star Award in March 2018. Shortly after, the Purple Star Room was unveiled. During the visit, the committee will meet with district officials, local veterans groups, military recruiters and the Fitch Students Serving Veterans group to gain input on how to expand the Purple Star Program.
