Dr. Flo joins Ankle and Foot Care Centers
Ankle and Foot Care Centers recently announced the addition of Dr. Jennifer Flo to its staff of physicians and surgeons. Dr. Flo is accepting new patients in the group’s Andover, Cornersburg and Struthers offices. With the addition of Dr. Flo, Ankle & Foot Care Centers now has 18 podiatric foot and ankle surgeons serving patients in 20 locations in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Dr. Flo specializes in diabetic foot care and wound care. In addition to treating patients in office and nursing homes, she plans to work with wound care clinics, as she is a board-certified wound care specialist.

Legacy Dog Rescue hosting reverse raffle
Legacy Dog Rescue is hosting its third annual Reverse Raffle on April 6 at the Avion on the Water in Canfield. A total of 125 tickets will be sold. The cost is $65 per ticket, which includes two dinners and one chance to win the grand prize of $1,500. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. and the raffle at 7 p.m. A Chinese auction, games of chance and 50/50 drawings will also be available. 4-H community open house set
A 4-H community open house will take place from 6-8 p.m. in the Greenford Ruritans Building at the Canfield Fairgrounds on Feb. 7. The open house is an opportunity to talk to adult 4-H leaders and current 4-H youth members and ask questions. Attendees will be able to find out more information about 4-H and how to join a club. Some of the more than 200 projects will be available to see and experience. These projects include more than just livestock, such as, veterinary science, clothing and textile science, communication, creative arts, photography, genealogy, writing, food and nutrition, healthy living, leadership and citizenship, money management, science, technology, engineering, math, natural resources, woodworking and more.
Yoga class
The Poland library will host a yoga class in the library meeting room every Wednesday throughout January from 5-6 p.m. Pay as you attend. Class is $10 per session. This event is for adults.
Incoming freshman orientation meeting
There will be an orientation meeting for all eighth-graders and their parents who reside in the Poland School District on Feb. 7 in the Poland High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Poland High School’s counselors will provide information which will assist incoming freshmen make wise decisions about their course selection. Topics to be covered will include graduation requirements, end of course exams/graduation points, course levels, curriculum choices and placement tests, post-secondary/college entrance requirements, athletic participation rules/OHSAA and extracurricular options. Seniors group to gather on Jan. 21
The Holy Family Seniors Group will meet on Jan. 21 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish Hall, located at 2729 Center Road in Poland. Lunch is $4 per member and will be served at noon, followed by Bingo and card games. Members are reminded that meetings will be canceled during the winter months if the weather is too cold or snowy for safe travel. Fundraising event for Celebrate Poland
The committee that plans the annual Celebrate Poland festival is sponsoring a “Breakfast, Baskets and More” event on Jan. 26 at 8 a.m. at the Poland Seminary High School cafeteria. The event concludes at noon. The breakfast includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, pastries and drinks by donation. In addition to the opportunity to bid on baskets, there is a chance to win a 50 inch Smart TV at six tickets for $5. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any committee member or by calling 330-651-2999. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. You need not be present to win. All proceeds from the breakfast will go toward funding the non-profit Celebrate Poland community event, which will take place on June 28 and 29.
Gamblers Anonymous meetings
If you or someone you love has a gambling addiction, Gamblers Anonymous, the only known remedy for arresting such an illness, may be able to help. A meeting of Gamblers Anonymous will take place on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman. Another G.A. meeting will take place Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the Christ Presbyterian Church, located at at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (Cornersburg). There is no charge for the meetings, although collections are taken up at each meeting to provide for coffee, sugar and creamer, treats and free literature. The average contribution given by members at most meetings is $2. Meetings last about 1.5 hours and are both closed meetings, or, you must have suffered from a gambling addiction to attend. The Youngstown-area G.A. groups are friendly and welcoming and established members love to see new members join the fold. They are more than happy to help suffering gamblers and are knowledgeable about how to stay clean from this disease.
Cardinal Mooney hosts 27th annual “Athletic Hall of Fame” dinner
On Feb. 17, Cardinal Mooney High School will host its 27th annual “Athletic Hall of Fame” dinner at the Lake Club, located at 1140 Paulin Road in Poland. Doors open at 6 p.m. for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. A dinner buffet will begin at 6:45 p.m. with the induction ceremony set for 8 p.m. Tickets are $75 each, with a table of eight for $600. All proceeds go directly to the Ron Stoops Scholarship Fund, which has been established by the Stoops family to provide tuition scholarships for students who attend Cardinal Mooney. This class of inductees includes Anthony “Toner” Barone, Joe Cerni, John D’Apolito, Aieshya Dixon, Katie Duracky, Walter Fyda, Greg Iaderosa, Curtis Ingram, Danielle Kepics, Ken Kraft, Bryan Lyons, Chuck Saulino, Bill Scott, Alex Simon and Val Zajac. Read to Roxie
Relax and read to Roxie, a registered therapy dog with GO TEAM Therapy Dogs, on Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Poland library. Each child will be given a 15-minute reading session while spots remain. Call 330-744-8636 and ask for the Poland library to register. This event is for grades 1-4.
Snack-n-sign
This event is for all fifth- eighth-graders. Come to the Poland library on Jan. 25 at 4 p.m. to learn sign language and about Deaf culture through fun, interactive games and activities. A snack will be provided.
DIY touch screen gloves
Go to the Poland library on Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. and they’ll teach you to use conductive thread to turn a pair of regular gloves into touch screen compatible ones. The library will supply gloves, or you can bring your own favorite pair from home. Registration required. This event is for teens in grades 7-12.
DIY valentine mugs
Learn how to make a valentine-themed mug at the Poland library on Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. All materials will be provided. Space is limited and registration is required. Register by calling 330-744-8636 and ask for the Poland library. This event is for adults, teens and tweens.
Microsoft Excel - class 1
Learn the basics of using Microsoft Excel for creating simple and useful spreadsheets at the Poland library on Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. This beginner’s class will cover setting up a spreadsheet and entering data. Some basic computer skills are required. Class will soon be followed by Microsoft Excel - classes 2 and 3. Register online via the library events calendar or call 330-744-8636. More than a book club
Gather at the Poland library on Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. to discuss the stories and information you are currently reading and researching. Whether you listen to audiobooks, read novels, read the newspaper or research online, share your sources and learn about others. This event is for adults.
Kindergarten readiness
Kindergarten readiness stations are in every Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County library branch and feature fun activities for you and your preschool child to complete together. For the month of January, the stations focus on social and emotional development, which is about learning how to manage feelings, manage friendships and solve problems. Before kindergarten, children should be able to recognize and identify their own emotions and the emotions of others. They should also be able to communicate a range of emotions in socially accepted ways. The kindergarten readiness stations offer fun activities to build these skills. Working on these skills now will help children be successful in their interactions with teachers and classmates when they get to school. Stop by any branch to try out our new kindergarten readiness stations and help your child build these important skills.
Bonding with babies, books and signs
Come to the Poland library on Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. and learn how to use American Sign Language (ASL) with your child through rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize. Learn easy corresponding signs to learn and share with your little ones.
Tales and talk for 2s and 3s
Join the Poland library every Thursday in January at 10:30 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Bonding with babies and books
This event, which will take place on Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Poland library, is for caregivers and their little ones who are 6-23 months. There will be 20 minutes of language enrichment including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize.
Playtime at your library
Read a story at the Poland library on Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. and have fun with developmentally appropriate games and activities that you can do with your child to help them get ready for kindergarten. Activities will vary at each program. This event is for children who are ages 2-6. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
A gross story
Hear a gross story at the Poland library on Jan. 31 at 6 p.m., then guess gross items in boxes, see some gross science experiments and have more gross fun. This event is for children in grades K-4.
Trim a tree for January
Decorate an ornament for the Poland library’s all-seasons tree during regular hours in January. This event is for children of all ages.

Overeaters Anonymous is offering meetings at several local locations and on a variety of days.
