Diabetes program

Mahoning County District Board of Health is offering the free “Diabetes Empowerment Education Program” (DEEP) for people with Type 1, Type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. Registration is required. Call 330-270-2855, ext. 109.

The program encourages small lifestyle changes while learning about diabetes and the way it affects health.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were 30.3 million people living with diabetes in the U.S. in 2017.

DEEP, an interactive small-group workshop that takes place once a week for six weeks, meets from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Jan. 23-Feb. 27 at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown; and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Feb. 19-March 26 at the Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, Boardman.
