Patrol: Driver hits cruiser; trooper hurt

CLEVELAND

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a woman accused of driving while intoxicated failed to stop at a stop sign in Ohio and crashed into a patrol cruiser, injuring a trooper.

The patrol says in a news release that the crash happened just after 3 a.m. Sunday at an intersection in Cleveland while the trooper was responding to a non-emergency crash reported on Interstate 71.

Authorities say Trooper J.M. Norton was treated for minor injuries at a hospital and released. The patrol release says troopers found the 23-year-old driver who drove into the path of the patrol cruiser was “highly intoxicated” and took her to a hospital for evaluation before taking her into custody.

The patrol says the woman faces charges including driving under the influence.
