What: Black-capped chickadees are inquisitive birds that can be coaxed into landing on your hand – especially if you tempt them with food. Learn more about these incredible songbirds with a naturalist. We’ll provide the birdseed.

What: Stop by the nature center to chat with a naturalist and learn about seasonal happenings at Mill Creek MetroParks.

Naked Tree Hike

When: Sunday, 2-4 p.m.

What: Join Naturalist Arika Preas on a brisk hike through the park and learn how you can identify trees even when there are no leaves.

Tales for Tots – Winter Tweets

When: Friday, 10-11 a.m.

What: Join us as we discover which birds are visiting our feeders this season. A story, craft and short walk are part of the fun.

Cost: $4 for Mahoning County residents, $6, NR.

Details: For kids age 2 to 3 plus adult. Register/pay at Ford Nature Center by Wednesday.

Picture Perfect

When: Jan. 20, 2-3:30 p.m.

What: The nature center’s photo contest organizer and a photography judge will give you basic information, tips and tricks to entering photos in local shows, including the center’s upcoming 17th Annual Nature Photography Contest and Exhibit.

Where: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE, Minerva.

Starting Seeds

When: Jan. 28, 9:30 a.m.-noon

What: A good start to life is key to the success of any plant, so join us to learn how to start those seeds. Speaker is Peg Zeleznik, master gardener volunteer.

Cost: $15 per person includes refreshments, handouts and giveaways.
