BOYS BASKETBALL

The LaBrae, Bristol and Badger boys basketball teams have earned Top 10 spots in this week’s Associated Press poll of state teams. In the first poll of the season, LaBrae (7-1) is ranked 10th in Division III with 40 points. In Div. IV, Bristol (7-2) is eighth with 49 points and Badger (9-1) is 10th with 42 points. Also in that division, Springfield is 15th with 31 points and three first-place votes. In Div. I, Boardman earned 12 points for 20th. In Div. II, Lakeview received one first-place vote and 13 points for 17th place. Right behind the Bulldogs is Girard with 12 points.

Hunter breaks Fitch record

AUSTINTOWN

Sabria Hunter recently broke the Fitch High School’s career rebounding record for boys and girls basketball. The high school senior broke the record of 803 rebounds, which had been held by Christina Toth since 1997. Hunter had 908 rebounds before Monday’s game at Erie McDowell. “It was an honor to hold the career rebounding record at Fitch for the past 22 years,” Toth said. “It’s time to pass the torch to Sabria; congratulations and good luck at West Point.” Hunter has 1,399 career points and is on track to break the school record of 1,581 points, set by Dana Sulenski in 1995. Hunter, a three-year letter-winner, holds a 3.8 GPA and is a member of Fitch’s National Honor Society. Hunter will continue her academic and athletic career at West Point Military Academy.

Sabria Hunter scored 26 points to lead the Falcons. Daria Williams finished with seven points and Emma Bartlett had six for Austintown Fitch. Julia Miller scored 13 points for Erie McDowell and Rachel Helsley added 10.

Raegan Burkey scored 22 points to lead the Spartans. Scoring 10 points each were Serana Khatib, Cate Green and Maria Torres. M. Condon led Lakeside with five points.

YOUNGSTOWN

Destiny Merriwether led the Golden Bears with 10 points and seven rebounds. Brianna Thompson scored eight points and Ki’yra Collins seven. For the Cowgirls, M. Stinson led with 12 points.

HUBBARD

Sara Bury and Kailyn Brown had 13 and 12 points, respectively, as Poland had 12 different players score. Destiny Watson scored nine points to lead Hubbard.

JEFFERSON

Maddy Hitchcock led the Falcons with 23 points. Also scoring in double figures were Hannah Root with 14 and Destiny Mayes with 12. For Lakeview, Allison Augustine scored seven points.

NILES

Struthers led 33-16 entering the fourth quarter before the Red Dragons attempted a comeback. Emma Elia scored 19 points to lead the Wildcats (6-5, 4-1 Northeast 8) and Trinity McDowell added 10. Madison Johnson scored a team-high 14 points for the Red Dragons (6-7, 5-1 Northeast 8).

Bree Kohler, Marlaina Slabach and Bri Modic each scored 11 points for the Raiders. Lexi Giles scored 10 points and made six rebounds and four assists. Izzy Lamparty made eight rebounds. For the Indians, Sophie Griffith led with 10 points.

BROOKFIELD

Brookfield’s Bailey Drapola finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Rebecca Litz had eight points and 15 rebounds for the Warriors. India Armour led the Red Devils with 14 points.

BERLIN CENTER

Western Reserve held the Trojans to only seven made shots. Dani Vuletich led the Blue Devils with 16 points and was one of four Western Reserve players to reach double digits. Emma Whaley scored six points for the Trojans and Kyleisha Jays added five.

LOWELLVILLE

Alexa Harkins and Fran Kesner each scored 15 points for the Rams. For the Rockets, Sam Moore led with 10.

Olivia Perry and Sophia Constantino each scored 10 points as McDonald improves to 10-0. Molly Howard added nine points for the winning side. Haylee Kachner scored a game-high 16 points for Waterloo.

Kayla Muslovski scored 28 points and Kennedy Fullum almost had a double-double with 18 points and eight rebounds. Sara Buskirk had eight points to lead East Palestine.

Izzy Perez led the Blue Devils with 13 points, six steals and three assists. Chloe Smith contributed 11 points, five steals and seven rebounds while Maddie Liberati had 10 points and eight rebounds. For the Eagles, Celeste Hofmeister made four 3-pointers for 12 points and Celeste Powers scored 10.
