Around the NHL Recaps of Monday’s games

Blues 3, Flyers 0

PHILADELPHIA

Brayden Schenn and Vladimir Tarasenko scored and Jordan Binnington stopped 25 shots in his first NHL start to lead the St. Louis Blues past the Philadelphia Flyers in a listless game between two of the worst teams in the league. The Blues’ win gave them 38 points and moved them past Los Angeles out of last place in the Western Conference. Only Ottawa has fewer points than the Flyers (36) in the East after Philadelphia’s seventh straight loss. Binnington, a third-round pick in the 2011 draft, made the lead stand and needed to make only eight saves in the third. David Perron scored an empty-netter in the final minutes.

Predators 4, Maple Leafs 0

TORONTO

Pekka Rinne made 18 saves for his third shutout of the season and the 54th of his career as the Nashville Predators defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs. Kevin Fiala had a goal and an assist, and Mattias Ekholm, P.K. Subban and Colton Sissons scored for Nashville. Michael Hutchinson stopped 28 shots for the Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs have lost three of their last four after a five-game winning streak. The Predators were playing for the third time in four nights. Rinne is now tied with Marc-Andre Fleury, Bernie Parent and Ed Giacomin for 21st on the all-time shutout list.

Wild 1, Canadiens 0

MONTREAL

Mikael Granlund scored, Devan Dubnyk stopped 32 shots for his first shutout of the season and the Minnesota Wild defeated the Montreal Canadiens. The Wild have won three straight games, all on the road. Carey Price stopped 24 shots for the Canadiens, who have dropped two in a row. Montreal lost Shea Weber to injury. The Canadiens’ captain was hit in the face by a puck while blocking a shot six minutes into the first period. Granlund scored the game’s only goal at 6:58 of the third period after pouncing on a no-look pass giveaway by Montreal defenseman Jeff Petry deep in his own zone. Granlund scored his 12th of the season when he waited out Price, who was partially blocked by players in front of the net. The Wild have won eight consecutive games against the Canadiens dating to Nov. 8, 2014. Granlund has at least a point in each of those victories.

Flames 4, Blackhawks 3

CHICAGO

Johnny Gaudreau scored two more goals, David Rittich made 32 saves and the Calgary Flames beat the Chicago Blackhawks. Sean Monahan had a goal and an assist as Western Conference-leading Calgary closed out a 3-1 trip with its second straight win. Garnet Hathaway scored an empty-net goal with 50 seconds left, and Elias Lindholm finished with two assists. Gaudreau extended his goal-scoring streak to five games, capping a fun stay in Chicago for the 25-year-old winger. Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks in the opener of a three-game homestand. Alex DeBrincat and Brandon Saad (Mahoning Valley Phantoms, 2008-09) also scored, and Collin Delia made 39 stops.
