YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State sophomore guard Chelsea Olson was named the Horizon League Player of the Week for helping the Penguins earn a pair of conference road victories over the weekend.

Olson received the award for the first time in her career, and she is the College Sports Madness HL Player of the Week for the second straight week.

Olson averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, five assists and three steals as the Penguins picked up road wins at Detroit Mercy and Oakland. She shot 61.5 percent overall from the field (8-of-13), 71.4 percent from 3 (5-of-7) and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the free-throw line.

Olson ranks among the top five in free-throw percentage, rebounds, assists and assist-to-turnover ratio, and she’s also in the top 10 in 3s per game, steals, blocks and minutes in the Horizon League.

YSU will host a pair of Horizon League games in the first week of 2019. The Penguins will welcome UIC to Beeghly Center on Thursday at 7 p.m., and they’ll host IUPUI on Saturday at 1 p.m.
