Polish Carnival at country club

Ostatki: A Polish Carnival Celebration, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Youngstown Country Club, off Logan Way. Tickets are $50 per person and are available at Krakus Polish Deli and Bakery, and the Casual Pint, both in Boardman, and online at polishyoungstown.org.

Upon arriving, guests will receive a passport to be used as they tour Poland via a series of guided tastings of imported Polish vodka, beers and liquors. This is preceded by an elaborate Polish appetizer buffet and complimented by an elegant dinner. Pittsburgh-based performer Radek Fizek will entertain. The evening will also include trivia meet-and-greets, bead contests, a basket raffle and other games. It will climax with the presentation of the celebratory paczki with a hidden surprise for one lucky winner.

Nurses group plans spring craft show

Kent State University at Trumbull’s Student Nurses Association will present its third-annual Spring Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday Attendees can shop more than 50 local vendors who will sell their handmade gifts, crafts, snacks, home-party goods and more.

The craft show will take place in the Student Union, inside the Classroom/Administration Building. The campus is at 4314 Mahoning Ave., Warren. Admission and parking are free.

A portion of the proceeds will help pay for nursing students to attend this year’s National Student Nurses Association Convention in Salt Lake City. Eight Trumbull nursing students attended the convention in Nashville, Tenn., last year.

Dana faculty sopranos to present a recital

The Dana School of Music will present “Too Many Sopranos – Fairy Tales, Nightmares, and Lullabies,” a recital by voice faculty, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Bliss Recital Hall, lower level of Bliss Hall.

The vocalists will be Misook Yun, soprano; Jennifer Jones Mosher, soprano; Susan Foster, soprano; Rachael Pavloski, mezzo-soprano; Maria Fenty Denison, mezzo-soprano and Allan Mosher, baritone.

The program will range from Broadway show tunes to classical numbers.

Chinese guitarist in Bliss Hall recital

YOUNGSTOWN

Chinese guitarist Tengyue Zhang, the winner of the 2017 Guitar Foundation of American International Concert Artists Competition, will give a free recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Bliss Recital Hall, lower level of Bliss Hall, on the Youngstown State University campus.

He will also teach a master class at 3 p.m. that day in Bliss Hall room 2222, which is free and open to the public.

Comedy-magic show at Hopewell Theatre

YOUNGSTOWN

The Hopewell Theatre will present “An Evening of Comedy & Magic” at 7:30 p.m. March 9 as a fundraiser for its efforts to make the venue handicapped accessible. Tickets are $20 and can be reserved by calling 330-746-5455 or going to hopewelltheatre.org.

The event will feature magician/comedian Eric Thompson and comedian Jenna Cintavey.

The Hopewell recently received a $20,000 grant from The Youngstown Foundation for its accessibility work. The project will cost approximately $80,000 and will include a handicapped-accessible restroom, a new entryway equipped with an electronic lift assist and new parking. The project was started two years ago.

Celebrity hairstylist taking appointments

Mia Santiago, a celebrity hairstylist in New York and a Canfield native, will return to her hometown March 15-16 to style hair at Magnolias on the Green hair Salon, 79 N. Broad St.

Barre, Lofgren are coming to Kent Stage

Martin Barre, the guitarist for Jethro Tull for 44 years, will come to Kent Stage, 175 E. Main St. for shows May 14 and 15. Tickets are $55, $45 and $40 and go on sale Friday at the box office, online at thekentstage.com and by phone at 877-987-6487.

Nils Lofgren, who works with Bruce Springsteen and formerly Neil Young, will come to the venue May 16. Tickets are $50 and $35.

Vanilla Fudge, one of the first American groups to infuse psychedelia into a heavy rock sound to create “psychedelic symphonic rock,” will come to Kent Stage on Sept. 5. Tickets are $40 and $30. The concert will also include the Pat Travers Band
