Performances will be May 10-12 in Powers Auditorium. Rehearsals will begin March 15. Director Todd Hancock seeks a diverse cast of more than 25 children and adults. All roles are open except Miss Trunchbull, which is being played by Maureen Collins. All available roles are singing roles, so auditionees should prepare one 90-second or less musical- theater selection. Bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided. A capella singing is fine. Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script. Dance calls will be part of the callback process only. The age-range for this cast is varied. Matilda and her 8 classmates are traditionally played as 7- to 10-year-olds. Young actors auditioning for these roles should have the appearance of being able to play these ages, but slightly older actors for these roles are ideal. Height will play an important part of casting in these circumstances, and between 4 feet and 5 feet is definitely the sweet spot. No actors under the age of 8 will be seen for this production. It is possible that the role of Matilda may be double cast. The remainder of the cast ranges between 16 and 55. Some members of the company will play both teenage students as well as slightly older roles.
