UPDATE | MCCTC 'methodically' dismissed after threats

CANFIELD — Mahoning County Career and Technical Center students are being “methodically” dismissed after vague threats were called into the school about 10 a.m. today.

Canfield police Chief Chuck Colucci said students who are picked up from school are being routed to Old North Church, 7105 Herbert Road.

Students who are bused to school are being released to their buses and returned to their home schools, he said.

Students who drive to school are being dealt with “differently,” Colucci said.

Colucci said an unknown person made four separate phone calls to the school at about 10 a.m. today, making vague threats regarding the school.

“What we are doing is slowly and methodically dismissing each classroom after we talk to the students,” Colucci said.

There are no apparent threats to the school and no reported injuries but police are handling the threats “as if there’s merit,” he said.

Colucci said it could be some time before the school is cleared and declared safe.

“To do it the safe and right way, it’s going to be a while,” he said.
